Satellite TV provider EchoStar Communications strengthened its executive suite, naming former Bell Canada executive Michael Neuman its new president/COO and appointing Carl Vogel, who recently joined

NEW YORK (The Hollywood Reporter) -- Satellite TV provider EchoStar Communications strengthened its executive suite, naming former Bell Canada executive Michael Neuman its new president/COO and appointing Carl Vogel, who recently joined the firm's board after leaving his post as CEO of cable firm Charter Communications, to the post of vice chairman.

Vogel will focus on financial and strategic initiatives, while Neuman will run day-to-day operations at EchoStar.

Neuman was most recently the president of Bell Canada Enterprises unit Bell Mobility. He fills the president post, which had been vacant for more than a year. EchoStar said in a statement June 20 that Neuman led the Canadian wireless carrier to its most profitable growth in its 19-year history.

Before his three-year work stint at Bell Mobility, he had served as president of Bell ExpressVu Satellite Television, WorldLinx Telecommunications and Cerberus Canada.

Vogel, who joined EchoStar's board in May, was EchoStar's president from 1994 to 1997. He previously also held various executive positions with companies affiliated with Liberty Media.

EchoStar chairman/CEO Charles Ergen lauded both executives, saying "their knowledge of the industry and managerial talent will strengthen our company and position it for continued success."
