(The Hollywood Reporter) -- French videogame maker Ubisoft Entertainment, in reporting improved full fiscal-year financials, said June 16 that it has no intention of selling to 20% shareholder and U.S. sector giant Electronic Arts.

Both sides were understood to have been in discussions, which had led some to expect a deal announcement soon. Analysts have been speculating for months that EA would acquire the firm, but Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot made it clear June 16 that he prefer his company remain independent.

If Ubisoft is to be acquired, he said, he would prefer it go to a media conglomerate rather than a rival videogame company.

In other gaming news, Banc of America Securities analyst Gary Cooper suggested that May videogame sales figures will disappoint by coming in flat year-over-year despite easy year-ago comparisons.
