Approved by Sony BMG and Warner Music Group.

Mix & Burn introduced upgraded kiosks approved by major music labels Sony BMG and Warner Music Group. The kiosks allow retail customers to purchase, download and play major label content directly on portable devices compliant with Windows Media Player 10. Customers will also be able to transfer their music purchase from their players to their home PCs where it can be played by WMP10.

"To do this, we have worked with SynCast, a Microsoft Gold Partner, to build and integrate its digital media technology into our kiosk system," Bob French, president of the Minneapolis-based Mix & Burn, said in a statement.

The kiosks allow for songs to be played in a secure environment and the new technology solution implemented by Mix & Burn also allows consumers to immediately play music upon downloading it to the appropriate portable devices.

Previously, the existing technology capabilities would have required shoppers to access Window Media Player on a PC in order to unlock the music, before it could be played on portable devices.

All four majors have licensed to Mix & Burn, a unit of Navarre Corp., to allow it to offer CD buring at retail.
