Pod2Mob, Melodeo offer new services.
Podcasting is going mobile, with two companies introducing new services that support the podcast format on wireless phones.
Pod2Mob launched a podcast streaming service as a beta test with Sprint PCS. Rather than download podcast files directly to a phone, the service allows users to listen to podcasts remotely. The beta test currently supports phones from Sanyo, Samsung, LG, Nokia, Motorola and Toshiba.
Melodeo, meanwhile, introduced its Mobilecast service allowing users to find and download podcasts directly to their phones. The service is an addition to Melodeo’s existing mobile music service, which allows wireless operators to offer subscribers over-the-air music downloads. To date, Rogers Wireless in Canada and Telefonica Moviles in Spain have launched Melodeo-powered services. The services is not yet available in the U.S.
