“Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith” will be the first major theatrical home video title to only be released on the DVD format.

The title, which is the last of the Star Wars franchise to be released on home video, will be available Nov. 1 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and LucasFilm. Other major fourth quarter titles from Fox, including “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” (Nov. 29) and “Robots” (Sept. 27), will still be released on VHS.

Buena Vista Home Entertainment has released several theatrical titles strictly on the DVD format, though these projects have not had the clout of “Star Wars: Episode III.” Upcoming DVD-only releases will include “Herbie: Fully Loaded” (Oct. 25) and “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” (Sept. 13).
