Charles Caldas is stepping down after six years as CEO of leading Australian independent music company Shock Entertainment Group. He helped established the firm in Melbourne 15 years ago.

Shock has been a force in the growth of the Australian independent sector, breaking acts into the mainstream charts and last year turning over an estimated A$89.4 million ($68 million), according to "Business Review Weekly” magazine.

"I've decided that it's time to smell the roses for a little while," Caldas says, adding that he plans to spend more time with his family, follow his love for photography and take guitar lessons.

Caldas recently recovered from a serious spinal infection. He and his family will holiday through Europe for the next month. He may retain an ongoing strategic role with Shock in the future, he says.

Shock Entertainment will appoint a managing director for Shock Records/DVD shortly.
