Factory could generate 50,000 discs each day.
Law enforcement officers have shuttered the largest-known counterfeit CD and DVD factory of its kind in western Europe.
Three Asian males were arrested and more than £400,000 ($729,000) worth of equipment and counterfeit Bollywood product were seized in raids at the facility in Southall, London, on Sept. 3. The confiscated CD duplicating equipment had the capacity to generate 50,000 discs each day, according to the BPI, whose anti-piracy investigators assisted in the raids.
"The fakes coming from this factory could have generated in excess of £1 million ($1.8 million) a week at street prices, and with no shortage of unregulated and unaccountable markets in the Southall area they're all too easy to sell," comments investigator Tariq Mohammed.
The recent raid is part of a strategic crackdown on Bollywood and Asian music piracy, which the BPI says has escalated to about 70%.
