With seven nods, Missy Higgins leads the nominations for this year's Australian Record Industry Assn. Awards, to be held Oct. 23 at the Sydney SuperDome.

The best female artist nominee´s debut "The Sound Of White" is up for album of the year, breakthrough artist album, pop release, and highest-selling album.

Her single "The Special Two" is up for single of the year and highest-selling single. "The Sound of White" (Eleven/EMI Music Australia) is recognized as the biggest-selling album of the year in Australia. Sales are close to 500,000 units (seven times platinum), according to Eleven. Higgins has been touring throughout the world this year, where the album is issued through Warner Music.

Also up for nominations, which were announced at a function in Sydney today (Sept. 14), are Ben Lee (Inertia) and Evermore (Warner) with five each, and Sarah Blasko (Dew Process/Universal) with four.

The ARIAs will be broadcast live on free-to-air Network Ten.

Winners of the classical, jazz, world music and soundtrack/cast/show recording categories will be unveiled at a separate ARIA Fine Arts Awards event on Oct. 11.

Also unveiled today were winners of the best producer (David Nicholas), engineer (Matt Lovell), video (Ben Quinn) and cover art (Ben Lee, Lara Meyerratken and Dan Estabrook) categories.
