Mastodon, High on Fire among catalog acts.
Philadelphia-based rock label Relapse Records has signed with RED Distribution. The exclusive distribution agreement will be effective Jan. 1, 2006, and includes Relapse's catalog and future releases.
"RED has a fantastic stable of labels, and we're friends with many of them," Relapse president Matt Jacobson tells Billboard.biz, pointing to strong working relationships with such RED-distributed labels as Metal Blade, Victory, Trustkill and Ferret, among others. "It just felt like a natural home for us to be."
Relapse Records was founded in 1990, and has released albums from the likes of the Dillinger Escape Plan, High on Fire, Unsane and Mastodon, who recently signed to Warner Bros. In 2006, Relapse will issue DVDs from Mastodon and Dillinger Escape Plan, a new album from Swedish metal group Burst and a two-disc set from grind-core act Nasum, among others.
The move to RED is a homecoming of sorts, as the independent distribution arm of Sony BMG was Relapse's first national distributor. Relapse releases most recently went through New York-based Ryko Distribution.
