Live Aid founders and Live 8 co-producers Bob Geldof, Harvey Goldsmith and John Kennedy will be honored during the Midem trade show at a gala dinner on Jan. 23 in Cannes, France.

The trio will receive the Midem Personality of the Year Award. They are to be lauded "in recognition of their outstanding work in bringing the music industry together to help alleviate poverty and famine in Africa."

Kennedy tells Billboard.biz, "It's so nice to receive a nomination such as this for something which was so rewarding in itself.”

This will be the first time in its 17-year history that the award has gone to more than one person.

"The Live Aid and Live 8 concerts were astonishing events and a testimony to the music industry's ability to transcend pure entertainment and mobilize people on a global scale," said Reed Midem CEO Paul Zilk in a statement.

Added Zilk, "The money raised in 1985 by Live Aid and the huge political impact of Live 8, are a tribute to the efforts of these three outstanding men.”

Geldof, Goldsmith and Kennedy are the three trustees of Band Aid Trust, the non-profit charity set up 20 years ago in the wake of the Band Aid project. Kennedy is chairman/CEO of industry trade body the IFPI. Goldsmith is a 40-year veteran of the live music industry.

Midem, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2006, takes place Jan. 22-26.
