Conversion to US Airways Center expected by Jan.
Following this year's merger between America West Airlines and US Airways, the America West Arena in Phoenix, Ariz. will be renamed the US Airways Center, a conversion that is expected to be complete by January.
The US Airways Center -- which is owned by the City of Phoenix and managed by a subsidiary of Suns Legacy Partners (owners of the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury and Phoenix Roadrunners sports teams) -- will retain that name for the next 10 years.
The arena recently underwent a $70 million expansion and improvement, which included a new exterior with glass walls and a new grand entrance. Now, the US Airways name will be incorporated throughout the building through exterior signs, on-court identification, concessions materials and staff uniforms.
