The Danish capital Copenhagen will host the 13th annual MTV Europe Music Awards on Nov. 9, 2006, the pan-European music broadcaster said today (Nov. 17). Details on the venue will be announced shortly.

MTV's decision to present its flagship European awards gala comes on the heels of the network's May launch of a local-language channel in Demark. New channels for Sweden, Finland and Norway subsequently bowed in September.

In a statement issued today, the city's major Lars Engberg welcomed the news. "With the MTV EMAs," he said, "Copenhagen will yet again receive international focus and attention and, at the same time, the awards will be a magnificent event for the people of Copenhagen and visitors to the city."

The awards last came to the Nordic region in 2000 when Stockholm's Globen venue hosted the annual gala.

Replay Blue Jeans will sponsor the MTV EMAs in 2006 for the 4th year. Further frontline sponsors will be announced next year.

This year's event was held Nov. 3 in Lisbon, Portugal.
