Nigel Robbins, Sydney-based managing director of MTV Networks Australia, has today (Dec. 6) been promoted to president, MTV Networks Asia-Pacific.

Based in Singapore, Robbins will be in charge of driving the growth of MTV, Nickelodeon and VH1 in the Asia-Pacific region, and developing new brands and businesses.

Robbins replaces Frank Brown, who relocated to Sydney earlier this year. A replacement for Robbins in Australia has not yet been appointed.

Going forward, MTV Networks Japan will operate as a separate division to MTV Networks Asia-Pacific. Peter Bullard, executive VP and managing director of MTVN Japan, continues to head the broadcaster's Japanese operations.

Both Robbins and Bullard will report to Bill Roedy, vice chairman of MTV Networks and president of MTV Networks International.

"Asia is a top priority for our global strategy,” comments Roedy in a statement. “Nigel's inspiring leadership, along with his commercial and creative expertise, combined with a deep understanding of the opportunities of building multimedia brand portfolios in diverse cultural landscapes around the world, give him the perfect credentials to drive our growth."

Since joining MTV twelve years ago, Robbins has worked for the network in the Asia Pacific in Singapore and Hong Kong, and ran the MTV Japan joint-venture. In recent months, he also served as acting managing director for MTV's India. As previously reported, Amit Jain takes the reins at MTV India in January.
