Warner Music U.K. will become the first music content provider for the new "TV over Broadband" service to be launched next year in the U.K. by telephone operator British Telecom.

The two companies today (Dec. 8) disclosed an agreement to develop on-demand access to music programming over BT's new service.

The partnership will see Warner Music provide audio and video catalogs -- including music videos, artist interviews, concerts and documentaries -- of its domestic and international artists for access to BT's broadband customers in the U.K.

In addition, the agreement will allow London-based Warner Music International to "work broadly" with BT to develop new consumer offerings on broadband services, mobile and landline telephone, and television music products.

BT's new project -- due to go live in the second half of 2006 -- will bring consumers the next-generation TV service, combining access to digital terrestrial channels, an extensive video on-demand library (movies, TV shows, music videos) and a range of interactive services (online games, retail opportunities and community services).

Warner Music U.K. chairman Nick Phillips said in a statement that such deals highlight Warner Music Group's "global strategy to become a multifaceted, music content company."

Dan Marks, chief executive of BT TV Services said the new service will provide new and innovative music programming and music-related products and services to the U.K. through BT's various platforms. "BT and Warner Music Group share a vision of the possibilities and the opportunities of next generation TV. We look forward to realizing those opportunities together," he said.
