Yahoo! unveiled a similar tool earlier this year.

Online powerhouse Google has added a new music search function to its popular search engine.

Music searches on Google will provide basic song and album data, album art, pictures, reviews, as well as links to ecommerce and digital retailers including iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, Wal-Mart, MSN and others.

Google reportedly isn’t getting paid for search results. Placement is said to be based on the availability of inventory, a mix of the popularity of the retailer based on page visits and randomness. Google’s entry into music search follows the launch of a similar tool by rival Yahoo! earlier this year.
