Welsh singer Tom Jones and jazz musician John Dankworth were both made knights in the New Year Honours list, published Saturday (Dec. 31), for services to music.

The Queen hands out the accolades to individuals each year to reward excellence across the various sectors of British culture.

Singer/songwriter Eddi Reader was made a Member (of the Order) of the British Empire (MBE). There were also MBEs for 1950s hitmakers the Beverley Sisters -- comprising Babette, Joy and Teddie. Former BBC Radio managing director Liz Forgan was made a Dame.

Apple Computer's senior VP of design Jonathan Ive was awarded the title of Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE).

London-born Ive was recognized for his role in the development of the computer giant's products, including the iPod.
