Mobile provider introduces four new channels.
Universal Music Group has licensed more than 1,100 music videos to mobile video provider MobiTV, which has introduced four new mobile music TV channels to its service.
The four channels include The Mic, focused on rap and hip hop; V40, a pop and top-40 station; Shift, for alternative rock; and Chaos, a blend of rap, grunge and heavy metal. MobiTV content is available from wireless operators Alltel, Cingular and Sprint in the U.S. for $9.99 a month. There is no per-video download fee.
UMG is contributing content from 375 artists to the service. MobiTV did not say when or if content from additional labels will be added. Wireless carriers in the UK and Canada also distribute MobiTV.
