Australian Internet and E-commerce company Destra Corporation has hired Clive Mayhew to the new position as GM of its Destra Media division, with effect from March.

Destra Media incorporates digital delivery firm Destra Music; Musicpoint, which provides new tracks to radio stations; and digital music service provider MP3.com.au.

From 1999-2002, Mayhew ran the international operations of U.S. music E-tailer CDNow. Prior to that, he held posts as managing director of Internet software firm Netscape Australasia and as marketing director of software company Solution 6. He has also headed Internet firm Chello Interactive Services as senior VP, based in London.

Since returning to Australia in July 2005, Mayhew has been consulting to Internet firm Realestate.com.au with a remit to help develop its New Zealand operations.

Sydney-based Mayhew will report to Destra Corporation's Melbourne-based CEO Domenic Carosa.

Mayhew tells Billboard.biz that his strategy for the next six months is to broaden the company's base of retail partners, and to widen its media partners to include television and newspapers.

He also plans to open-up distribution channels and marketing for MP3.com.au, which Destra claims attracted a record 2.5 million downloads and streams in December.

Destra has pressed ahead in the past three months with the purchase of Sydney-based indie Rajon Music and Video Group. The company also recently struck a deal with Sony BMG Music Entertainment to sell full digital tracks to mobile phones.

Destra Music claims to be the largest online store in Australia, after a distribution deal with U.S. online store CDBaby in January brought its catalog to 1.3 million titles.
