Former BMG Germany/Switzerland/Austria president and CEO Thomas Stein is joining Jack White Productions AG as CEO, with effect from March 1.

The independent Berlin-based music production firm was founded in 1998 by its current CEO Jack White. Following Stein's arrival, White will remain on the company's board of management and will concentrate on music production, according to the company in a statement.

In its statement, issued today (Jan. 17), the company suggests Stein's appointment will trigger a period of expansion for its production activities and artist portfolio. Details will be announced over the coming months.

As part of the arrangement, Stein will incorporate his artist management business A1 into the group.

The veteran executive exited BMG in early 2004 as the company was firming up merger plans with Sony Music. Stein had held top-level management positions at the major for more than 12 years and had been president/CEO of BMG G/S/A since January 2003. Prior to that, he was president of BMG Europe. Under him, BMG became the second-largest record company in Germany, claiming a 21% market share in 2003.

At the end of 2002, Stein raised his public profile through his role as a member of the jury panel on Germany's version of the "Pop Idol"-based TV talent show "Deutschland Sucht den Superstar," a function he continued to perform after leaving BMG.

He was appointed to the supervisory board of Jack White Productions AG at the beginning of October 2005.
