Veteran EMI Music Publishing U.K. executive Mike Smith is to exit the company, with effect from Jan. 31.

Smith, who is currently London-based senior VP and director of A&R, will assume a "senior role" at Sony BMG U.K., according to a spokesman for the publishing firm.

Speaking on the departure, EMI Music Publishing U.K. managing director Guy Moot says "this gives us the opportunity to restructure and refocus the A&R department for the new challenges ahead, to continue to refine how we approach traditional A&R and how we look after our songwriters, producers and our catalog."

Since joining the publishing giant in 1992, Smith has signed numerous hitmakers to its roster, including Blur, Arcade Fire and rising acts Arctic Monkeys and the Feeling.
