Will be based in L.A.
As part of its ongoing restructuring, bilingual network mun2 has appointed Alex Pels as GM for the network, along with a new production team. Pels, and most of his staff, will be based in Universal CityWalk in Los Angeles, the new hub of mun2.
Pels was one of the founders of MTV Latin America and served as VP of production and programming for the network. He also headed his own production company, Pelsalek Productions. In addition to Pels, other new producers coming onboard to mun2 include West Coast executive producer Gloria Medel and Miami-based executive producer for the East Coast Luisa Varona.
Nick Rodriguez has been named producer of the soon to be launched LA-based show "Vivo." Medel was previously president of production for Voy Pictures Television. Varona is a writer and producer whose credits include specials for the likes of Shakira, Juanes and Ricky Martin.
Mun2, which launched four years ago in Miami, is a cable network that targets U.S. Latino, bilingual youth. It is part of Telemundo Cable Networks.
Last year, Telemundo named former MTV Latin America president Antoinette Zel as its Senior Executive VP of Network Strategy. One of Zel's priorities has been the revamping of mun2.
