Wembley Arena, one of London's biggest indoor music venues, has appointed online ticketing giant Ticketmaster as its "preferred ticketing provider."

The multi-year contract kicks in from March 1 and covers the Arena, Conference and Exhibition Centre.

The new agreement means the key ticketing system used at Wembley Arena will be operated by Ticketmaster. The technology used features an access control and ticket authentication system designed to block fake tickets.

It also enables the venue to monitor entry traffic, authenticate tickets in real time, and enable customers to download and print tickets via home computers.

The venue is currently undergoing a £35 million refurbishment which will see its capacity jump from 11,500 to a potential 13,500.

Fifty events are already booked for the new Wembley Arena, says its GM Peter Tudor. British alternative rock act Depeche Mode are due to re-open the venue on April 2.

Wembley Arena recently clinched a 15-year pact with live-entertainment promotion giant Live Nation, which will now manage and operate the venue.
