John Pires has been promoted to VP of business development at Famous Music Publishing. He reports to Margaret Johnson, executive VP of finance and administration for the Famous Music Publishing companies, and is based in New York.

Pires joined Famous in 1995 and was most recently director of special projects. In his new role he will take on more responsibility in the area of business expansion and development.

In making the announcement, Johnson said “John has made an invaluable contribution to Famous with his work on acquisitions, and has particularly distinguished himself with the role he played during the negotiation, diligence, and acquisition of the Extreme Music production music library. John’s great sense of business and his understanding of the music industry challenges combine to make him a very promising executive in our company.”

Pires initially began his 11-year career at Famous Music in the company’s Los Angeles office where he worked in the areas of mechanical licensing and copyright. He was promoted to director of special projects after joining the company’s New York staff. Prior to joining Famous, he was a consultant to MCA Music Publishing.
