BMG Japan president/CEO Hidehiko Tashiro will leave the company effective March 31 in order to retire, a spokesman for the Tokyo-based label said Friday (Feb. 17).

Sony BMG Music Entertainment chief marketing officer/executive VP Tim Prescott will oversee BMG Japan's operations until a permanent replacement for Tashiro is hired.

Tashiro, previously a direct-marketing executive, has been president of BMG's Japanese affiliate since November 1998.

The spokesman confirmed that BMG Japan and Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) will remain separate entities for the time being, despite the Sony BMG merger in the rest of the world.
