John McGuire has been appointed head of broadcasting for British collecting society Phonographic Performance Ltd and its sister company Video Performance Ltd.

McGuire joins from London-based independent music firm Sanctuary Group plc, where he was business affairs manager. Prior to that, he served at Channel 5 Broadcasting.

Based in London, McGuire will be responsible for negotiating all broadcasting and dubbing licenses with radio and TV stations.

"Broadcasting revenues account for well over half of PPL/VPL income and this is without doubt a key role in our organization," comments Peter Leathem, director of rights negotiation and legal and business affairs, to whom McGuire reports.

McGuire succeeds Adam Baxter, who shifted to a consultancy-based role for the organization at the end of 2005.
