As MTV Canada prepares to launch in Canada, construction crews have begun erecting the music TV broadcaster's world-famous signature sign on Toronto's landmark Masonic Temple.

The downtown building has been renamed as the home of MTV in Canada and contains a state-of-the-art TV studio. In previous incarnations, the building had operated as Club 888 and the Rockpile. As the latter in the early '70s, such bands as Led Zeppelin, Ike & Tina Turner, and the Jeff Beck Group played on its premises.

The broadcaster said today (Feb. 20) that MTV Live will be the flagship original series that will anchor its schedule. The programming, a live and interactive talk show about social issues of interest, will air Monday-Friday on MTV Canada.

As previously reported, MTV Networks and CTV announced on Sept. 28, 2005 a joint-venture to reintroduce MTV in Canada.

The new venture will see MTV Canada creating original Canadian programming for airplay across numerous CTV platforms and on MTV channels internationally.

It will replace CTV's Talktv channel, which is currently available on cable to Canadian consumers.

MTV Canada will be made public its launch date in the coming weeks.
