Avex-signed female vocalist Kumi Koda was named domestic artist of the year at the Recording Industry Assn. of Japan's 20th annual Gold Disc Awards ceremony, held this evening (March 9) in Tokyo.

Avex-signed female vocalist Kumi Koda was named domestic artist of the year at the Recording Industry Assn. of Japan's 20th annual Gold Disc Awards ceremony, held this evening (March 9) in Tokyo.

The awards are based on net shipments by the RIAJ's 41 member companies during 2005.

Romania-based trio O-Zone, who are licensed to Avex in Japan, won for international artist of the year on the back of the band’s novelty hit song "Koi no Maiahi - Dragostea Din Tei."

The winners for best new domestic artist included female singer Yuna Ito, male pop duo WaT and pop/rock band Uverworld.

The ceremony was broadcast live nationwide on NHK satellite TV.
