Country superstar Kenny Chesney has included nine stadium dates on his tour route this year, including National Football League stadiums in Boston, Nashville, Seattle, Detroit, and Tampa, and Major League Soccer stadiums in Dallas, Chicago, Columbus, Ohio, and Los Angeles.

The stadium dates will be part of the Road & the Radio tour, which begins with a double March 23-24 at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio. Dierks Bentley and Sugarland or Carrie Underwood will support Chesney, with Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson added to the stadium dates.

Stadium concerts are very expensive to produce and have become increasingly rare over the past decade. There hasn’t been a full-blown coast-to-coast stadium tour in years, but Chesney promoter Louis Messina maintains that the Chesney team makes the stadium dates work financially.

“There are financial rewards in everything we do,” Messina says. “I’m not going to lie to you, you sell 50,000 tickets, it’s a little better than union scale.”

Chesney is among the most successful touring artists in any genre. Last year he grossed $63 million, fourth among all touring acts, and his attendance of 1.2 million was second only to U2.
