Maarten Steinkamp, president of Sony BMG Continental Europe, has handed over responsibility for the Germany company to Edgar Berger.

In September 2005, Steinkamp appointed Berger to the position of president Sony BMG Germany with responsibility for repertoire, international, strategic marketing/media and catalog.

In his new role as Sony BMG Germany CEO, Berger adds duties for sales, Gun Records, human resources/corporate communications and legal & business affairs.

In a statement, Steinkamp says the Munich-based German company is now the most profitable unit in Sony BMG Continental Europe.

"Sony BMG has performed very well in Germany, with sales and earnings exceeding our forecasts," he says. "This year, our post-merger efforts will pay off in full. Our strategic decisions and investments -- particularly in national artists and labels -- are paying off."

Steinkamp assumed responsibility for BMG in Germany at the beginning of 2004 and completely restructured the company before it was integrated in the Sony BMG joint venture.
