Publishing vets upped in Nashville creative dept.

Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville has promoted Terry Wakefield and Mike Whelan in its creative department.

Wakefield, previously VP of creative, has been promoted to senior VP of creative. Whelan moves from senior director to VP, creative.

Wakefield began his music industry career in 1989 in the A&R department of Arista Records Nashville. In 1994, he moved to Little Big Town Music Publishing as a song plugger, where he worked for four years until Sony/ATV Nashville acquired the company. Wakefield moved to Sony/ATV Nashville with the acquisition and has served there for the past eight years.

Whelan started his career at Merit Publishing in 1986 before moving to PolyGram Music Publishing in 1991. In 1994, he accepted a position at Acuff-Rose Music Publishing. When Sony/ATV acquired that publishing company in 2002, Whelan joined the creative staff.

“Terry and Mike have proven themselves as top performers in the area of song plugging, and they maintain a sincere love of our writers and their music," says Troy Tomlinson, president/CEO of Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville. "They are respected not only here at Sony/ATV but also throughout the music industry in Nashville. I'm delighted to see them grow within the company.”
