eMusic has bolstered its editorial, pr and marketing departments with new hires in key positions.
In editorial, music journalists Lenny Kaye and Michaelangelo Matos have been hired as rock/pop columnist and managing editor, respectively. Kaye and Matos report to eMusic editor-in-chief Michael Azerrad.
Additionally, Cathy Halgas Nevins has been appointed senior director of corporate communications and Matt Gately as senior director of acquisition marketing. Nevin reports to eMusic president and CEO David Pakman, and Gately reports to senior VP of marketing Chris Hoerenz.
All are based in New York, except for Kaye, who telecommutes via his home in Stroudsburg, PA.
Kaye is co-founder of the Patti Smith Group and has had a long career as musician, music journalist and producer. He has produced multi-platinum albums for Suzanne Vega and Soul Asylum and his writing has appeared in Creem, Rolling Stone and Crawdaddy.
Matos was previously music editor at Seattle Weekly and his pieces appeared in Da Capo Best Music Writing 2004. He has written for publications such as Spin, Village Voice, Rolling Stone and Chicago Reader.
Nevins was mostly recently VP of communications and publicity for DVD and record label Eagle Rock Entertainment. She has worked with online retailer Bluefly.com and digital music locker company Myplay, Inc.
Gately joins eMusic after a 15-year stint at sweepstakes giant Publishers Clearing House and pch.com, where most recently he focused on online customer acquisition and business development.
