HOB, Seattle Theatre Group developing venue.
A new House Of Blues Club venue will be in Seattle, Wash., Billboard.biz has learned.
House of Blues Entertainment, Inc. and the Seattle Theatre Group have entered into a preliminary agreement to develop a new House of Blues club adjacent to the historic Paramount Theatre in downtown Seattle.
The entertainment space and restaurant, located inside the Paramount Tower, is slated to open in 2007 after a period of renovation that will bring major improvements to the historic structure. The new venue will feature HOB’s trademark cuisine, décor, special events space and Foundation Room—a private membership fine dining and entertainment experience.
The preliminary planning, design and due diligence process is underway and a definitive agreement is expected by early this summer, at which time the two organizations will present detailed plans publicly.
The Seattle Theatre Group was founded in 1992 as the Seattle Landmark Association and under the guidance and leadership of retired Microsoft executive Ida Cole, the organization engaged in a $20 million restoration of the historic Paramount Theatre.
House of Blues, through its House of Blues Concerts division, is very active in the region, promoting more than 200 shows annually throughout the Pacific Northwest. HOB also operates the Gorge, a 22,000 capacity amphitheater in George, Wash. Senior VP Jeff Trisler oversees HOB’s talent buying in the region.
In addition to the new HOB venue in Seattle, it was recently announced that a new HOB in Houston will become part of the $200 million Houston Pavilions project in 2007. The company also opened new venues in Atlantic City and San Diego in 2005.
HOB CEO Greg Trojan tells Billboard.biz that the company will continue to expand its base of operations and reach. “Our preference is to look at markets where we can establish a base, where we have a core building or set of buildings,” he says. “We’re not likely to go to [markets] where we don’t have a building and just go out there and start promoting shows. We want to know we have an ability to control some real estate as a base and some venues that give us a core to build from, and we’ll definitely be expanding on the venue side of our business.”
The Seattle Theater Group (STG) will continue to book The Paramount Theater, a historic 2800 seat proscenium house adjacent to the new HOB development. House of Blues Concerts has produced dozens of shows with STG at The Paramount, as have a number of other promoters, including Live Nation Theatrical which produces their Broadway Series at The Paramount. HOB will continue to book many of the concerts events at The Paramount with STG, but not on an exclusive basis
