Lyric-inspired merch the 'next logical step.'
Universal Music Publishing is licensing song lyrics for clothing packages to Lyric Jeans, a manufacturer of premium denim wear.
The premium clothing company will use the publisher's catalog to plan and package "Lyric Culture" merchandising programs for Universal's songwriters who want to sell merchandise through high-end retail channels. The companies will put together a design strategy to allow consumers to express themselves through song lyrics.
"Artists have already seen the benefits of band merchandising, and we believe lyric-inspired merchandise is the next logical step in bringing our songwriters new revenue streams," says Heather Brown, UMPG senior director, marketing & communications.
"We want to make our lyrics and the artistic vision of our writers available to music fans by combining music and fashion in a groundbreaking way, and the Lyric Jeans packages will be a great channel to do so at retail."
"Universal Music Publishing Group is synonymous with great songs. They are visionaries when it comes to finding the most creative opportunities for their artists and songwriters," says Hanna Rochelle, Lyric Jeans president. "We're thrilled to have them as a strategic partner in this unprecedented venture."
