RealNetworks Inc. has expanded its RealMusic digital-music service into Continental Europe.

The music-discovery service, which is centered on online music-radio channels, is now available in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.

RealMusic came to the U.K. market in December 2005.

For €11.99 ($15.16) a month, users have unlimited access to localized editions of the service, which comprises 150 ad-free, CD-quality artist-themed radio stations, plus another 150 genre-based and third-party stations selected and compiled by RealMusic's editorial team.

Examples include the La Belle France station, Deutsche HipHop Allstars in Germany and Italy's Grandi Successi Italiani.

Consumers access content through the Windows PC or Apple's Mac home computers.

RealNetworks says that its current RadioPass subscribers in Europe will automatically be upgraded to receive RealMusic for no extra charge.

In addition to the Web radio stations, subscribers can download and purchase ringtones, on-demand music videos licensed from the major labels and local independents, plus full tracks from unsigned talent. There is also a search facility to access "thousands of Internet radio stations" worldwide.

"Not only will RealMusic be a service built around our key European markets, but it will also be a significant revenue source as the flagship music product in Real's European portfolio," said Marco Menato, RealNetworks' VP EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa).
