Band to put on a mid-race concert May 20.
NASCAR is gearing up for a first during its Nextel Cup Series All-Star Challenge May 20: a mid-race concert. For this special event, NASCAR has tapped the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who will play songs from their new album, "Stadium Arcadium." This performance marks a first for the RHCP, too, as the band has never performed at a sporting event.
Footage from this performance will be incorporated into NASCAR's "How Bad Have You Got It" TV commercial, due this summer. The band will also appear in the latest spot in the racing association's "Image" campaign, also debuting this summer. Past "Image" campaigns have featured Jewel, Lenny Kravitz, Sheryl Crow and others.
NASCAR's Nextel Cup Series All-Star Challenge airs May 20 at 7:00 p.m. EST on FX.
