Derrick Thompson promoted to senior VP, urban music

BMG Songs has promoted Derrick Thompson to senior VP, urban music. He will continue to oversee all urban creative activities for the company, including signing and developing writer/producers and artists.

Since joining BMG Songs in 1994, Thompson's signing include Nelly, Keyshia Cole, Erykah Badu, Mobb Deep, Chingy, Lil' Flip and Lupe Fiasco. Thompson has also brought to BMG such writer/producers as 2006 Grammy winner Manuel Seal, who has written songs recorded by Mariah Carey and Usher; Chad Hugo of the Neptunes, whose songs were recorded by Mariah Carey, No Doubt, Snoop Dogg and N.E.R.D.; Buckwild, who has written for Shyne and Ludacris; and Ron Lawrence, whose songs were recorded by Diddy, Faith Evans and Notorious B.I.G.

Thompson was most recently VP, urban music. He will be based in Los Angeles and report to BMG Songs president Scott Francis.
