50 Cent, Green Day among those honored.
EMI Music Publishing was named publisher of the year at the 23rd annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards, held tonight (May 22) at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles. It marked the 12th time that EMI, which had 17 of the award-winning songs, has grabbed the honor.
50 Cent took songwriter of the year honors for his contributions to five award winning songs.
"Boulevard of Broken Dreams," written by Green Day, and "We Belong Together," co-written by Johnta Austin, Jermaine Dupri and Manuel Seal, tied for the song of the year title.
Highlights of the evening included the presentation of special awards to Annie Lennox and Green Day for their outstanding contributions to music, and the ASCAP College Vanguard award went to the Joseph Arthur, who moved the audience with a performance of his song "In the Sun."
