Sony BMG Music Entertainment has elevated Andrea Rosi to VP, digital business development, southern Europe.

In this new Milan-based role, Rosi reports to Maarten Steinkamp, president of Sony BMG Continental Europe, and will work closely with Thomas Gewecke, executive VP, global digital business in New York.

Rosi will be responsible for driving the music major's digital activities in the Southern European countries, comprising Spain, Portugal, France, Greece and Turkey.

"Andrea brings with him many years of experience and success in the digital market," comments Steinkamp, "and I know that he is the right person to help position our Southern European companies in the digital field and that he will be a great support for our overall digital strategies across Continental Europe."

Rosi continues in his current role as head of digital business for the company's Italy operation, reporting to Sony BMG Music Entertainment Italy president Franco Cabrini.

He joined the company (then BMG Ricordi) in 2003 from Vitaminic, the European digital distribution group which co-founded.
