Universal Music Malaysia managing director Sandy Monteiro has taken on the additional new position of VP, digital, Universal Music South East Asia (excluding China), effective immediately.

Monteiro will continue to report to Universal Music South East Asia president Harry Hui.

"Sandy's expertise in the digital industry will play a key role in our future regional business strategies in establishing, developing, and expanding all aspects of digital, particularly the mobile and Internet platforms," said Hui in a statement.

"The digital platform is only now starting to show signs of growth," says Monteiro. "We're still a young player, but the positive business upswing in the past year is a sure sign that the digital business will double by end 2006."

In addition, Universal Mobile Malaysia business development manager Yew Ming has been promoted to the new role as director of digital, Universal Music South East Asia, with immediate effect. Yew reports to Monteiro.

"The appointments reflect an ongoing improvement of our management and development of these businesses," says a Universal Music South East Asia spokesperson. "Bringing new media and mobile under one management in the Southeast Asia region under the collective title of 'digital' means both platforms can be worked on more effectively."
