EMI Music has become the first major label to provide content to MobilMuzik, the mobile-music service offered by Turkey’s leading wireless carrier Turkcell.
The 200,000 tracks, selected from the EMI repertoire that is licensed for the European market, includes songs from Coldplay, Gorillaz, Norah Jones and Robbie Williams.
MobileMuzik is available to the 28.7 million consumers who subscribe to Turkcell, which has 60% of the local mobile market and is quoted on the New York Stock Exchange.
Customers can download tracks to own and are charged per track, with no additional cost for the time it takes to download the song.
According to IFPI figures, mobile music accounts for 98% of Turkey’s digital-music revenues.
