Bill Macky will join label as exec VP June 13.

In addition to the previously-reported ouster of VP/promotion Tony Benken at Nashville-based indie label Category 5 Records, several other staffers have been let go as well. Also exiting are VP of operations John Northrup, who had also headed the company's publishing division, plus three more members of the label's promotion team: Southeast regional Jay Thomas, Southwest regional Courtney Grimes and secondary promoter Bridgett Osborn.

Prior to joining Category 5, Northrup ran the management and radio promotions firm the Northrup Entertainment Group. That company was acquired by Category 5 earlier this year and remained in operation, headed by Braeden Rountree. Now, Rountree has also been let go along with one other Northrup staffer.

In news broke earlier, former Epic Records VP of national promotion Bill Macky will join Category 5 Records tomorrow (June 13) as executive VP of promotion. He plans to reconfigure the label's promotion team.

Macky exited Epic in April, where he had been VP of national promotion for Epic since December, 2005. Prior to that, he had been VP of national promotion for both Epic and Columbia. Before Sony, Macky spent eight years with MCA Nashville, rising to the position of VP/promotion. His career history also includes extensive experience in country radio, working at such stations as WDSY Pittsburgh, KRTY San Jose, Calif., KSON San Diego and KUZZ Bakersfield, Calif.

Benken joined Category 5 in January, shortly after its launch. His previous work history includes stints on the promotion teams at Broken Bow Records, Universal South Records, Virgin, RCA and BNA Records.

Category 5's Roster includes Travis Tritt, Sammy Kershaw and newcomer Craig Hand. It's first album release, Kershaw's "Honky Tonk Boots," is due June 27. The label is distributed by Sony/RED.
