Set to kick off later this fall.
IRIS Distribution, a digital distributor of independent music, is teaming with jazz label, Palmetto Records and web development company, BKWLD to create a mobile content store geared towards jazz enthusiasts.
The m-commerce store is set for launch later this fall and will be known as JazzOutLoud. It will offer IRIS-supplied ringtones and full track downloads across a spectrum of different jazz styles. Tracks will be available for purchase via the web or short code. Transaction processing will be powered by Lake Forest, IL.-based mobile technology specialist FasPay Technologies.
Palmetto, which is providing content, as well as advisory services to the venture, is home to Dr. Lonnie Smith, Fred Hersch, Ben Allison, Ted Nash. BKWLD (pronounced “buckwild”) will is designing the interface and layout of the store.
Other labels licensing content to the initiative include Sunnyside (Dave Holland, Luciana Souza, Ben Monder, Steven Burns), Thirsty Ear (Sex Mob, DJ Spooky, Matthew Shipp, David S. Ware), Preservation Hall (The Preservation Hall Jazz Band), and Kayo Sterophonic (Anita O’Day).
“The mobile market of high-end phones and the demographic segment that jazz caters to is a perfect fit,” says Pat Rustici, VP/GM of Palmetto Records.
In addition to selling standard ringtones, JazzOutLoud will allow users to create their own custom ringtone using FasPay customization technology.
