Napster has launched its new cell phone music service, Napster Mobile, with its initial distribution partner, southeastern regional carrier SunCom Wireless. It is the first mobile music download service offered by a third-party brand and not directly from a wireless carrier.

Songs offered via the service are priced at $2 each and can be downloaded to both phones and PCs. The store features 2 million tracks available for over-the-air download, more than both the Verizon and Sprint music services combined.

Napster's first tipped the launch during an earnings call on Aug. 3.
