Classical duo the Carnatica Brothers will perform a 24-hour free concert in Chennai tomorrow (Sept. 9) to "promote world peace."

The Chennai, South India-based act, comprising K N Shashikiran and P Ganesh, will be accompanied at the Carnatica Culture Court with about 20 instrumentalists. The venue holds about a hundred people.

Ganesh explains that the concert is dedicated to victims of the Sept. 11 attacks and natural calamities such as 2004's tsunami disaster.

The concert, which comes ahead of the Sept. 21 World Peace Day celebrations, is promoted by Chennai-based Carnatica. The multi-activity organization also operates an archival center, a recording studio and sells a variety of classical recordings via its Web site.

Ganesh says that there are no plans of selling recordings of the marathon concert. "This is a free event to promote world peace given the times we live in, considering the situation in Iraq, Lebanon and other war-afflicted countries. We don't plan to commercialise this in any way."
