The Red Hot Chili Peppers top the nominations listings ahead of the 13th annual MTV Europe Music Awards, which will take place Nov. 2 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The alternative rock act is nominated four times, including the best rock and best group categories. Their double-set "Stadium Arcadium" (Warner Bros.) is a contender for best album, and the track "Dani California" will compete in the best song category.

Other multiple nominees, with three nods apiece, are Madonna, Shakira, Nelly Furtado, Christina Aguilera, Kanye West and Muse. Muse and Furtado are among the booked performers confirmed today (Sept. 19).

Justin Timberlake will host and perform at the gala, which will broadcast simultaneously from the city's Bella Center and RĂ„dhuspladsen Town Square.

MTV says it will create a buzz on the event through a multi-platform, cross-media campaign. MTV's pan-European broadcast network and local online presences will carry branded programming in the run up to the awards. Exclusive elements of the ceremony will available on the Internet and mobile.

Nominations for most of the 30 award categories were assembled by the network's voting "Academy" of 1,700 people, gathered from the music industry and pan-European MTV viewers. The video category and the Free Your Mind award are chosen exclusively by MTV Europe. All categories will be voted for by MTV viewers via online and mobile platforms.

Replay Blue Jeans, the new Opel/Vauxhall Corsa and Sony Ericsson are the official sponsors of this year's event.
