Deal covers new releases and catalog.
Fame Records, based in Muscle Shoals, Ala. today (Oct. 11) revealed that it has signed a North American distribution pact with EMI Music Marketing.
Under the deal, EMI will distribute Fame product by new artists (as yet unnamed) as well as the label's catalog, which includes Candi Staton, Dan Penn, Jimmy Hughes, Arthur Alexander and Clarence Carter.
"Some of these old masters have never been released, and only a select few of them have ever been released on CD," declares Rodney Hall, VP of Fame who has helped document and preserve the company's archives. "It's really the last great soul catalog to come out on CD.”
Adds Hall, "The timing (of the deal with EMI) couldn't be more perfect, "It follows on the heels of a recent resurgence in Muscle Shoals’ music.”
Acts based locally or linked with this region of Alabama include the Drive-by Truckers (New West), Gary Nichols (Mercury), Bo Bice (BMG) and Heartland (Lofton Creek).
