Universal Music France and French manufacturer MCA Technology have partnered on the new 1Go digital music player N.E.O.

The device, which hits the racks Monday (Nov. 13) in France and Belgium, will bundle tracks from the Universal catalog.

Priced at €99.99 ($128), the player comes with a free six-month subscription to Buzzmusic.fr, the service created for the occasion by Universal Music France.

Buzzmusic.fr provides unlimited access to 50,000 Universal Music titles, with a "To Go" feature. Subscription typically costs €9.99 ($12.80) per month.

"We already launched several initiatives with MCA technology to test new music consumption models," says Emmanuel de Sola, who managed the project at Universal. "This is a big one for the Christmas season, which promotes legal download through an attractive player."

Universal will update catalog with new in-house releases, but has no plan to open its service to other catalogs.

Universal France will not share revenue on N.E.O. sales; according to de Sola, MCA is paying Universal a fee for each device manufactured.

De Sola says that 60,000 devices will be shipped by launch.
