It was unclear at deadline who would fill the void following his departure. According to a spokesman with the major, the door will be left open to Prescott’s return.

New York-based Prescott was named executive VP and chief marketing officer, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, in Sept. 2004; earlier this year, he took duties overseeing Japan's operations in Japan.

Prior to the Sony BMG merger, he served as executive VP and chief marketing officer for BMG.

Prescott joined BMG in 1996 as managing director of the company's affiliates in Australia and New Zealand. He launched his career in 1979 at CBS Records/Sony Music Australia.
