eMusic says it has sold more than 100 million downloads since establishing its current subscription model three years ago.

The company, which claims over 220,000 subscribers, also says its catalog of independent-only music has doubled in the last year to more than two million tracks.

In connection with the sale of its 100 millionth track, eMusic has commissioned Desperation Records/ Nettwerk's Barenaked Ladies to write a song about the customer who purchased it -- Michael Brennan of Moorsetown, NJ.. The Barenaked Ladies song will be available as an exclusive free track on eMusic for a week in January.

It will also be available as a bonus track on the eMusic version of the band's forthcoming album "Barenaked Ladies Are Men" due Feb. 6.

Users of eMusic's basic service pay $9.99 per month for the ability to download up to 30 songs per billing cycle. The tracks are DRM free and encoded in the MP3 format. Users permanently own the songs they download.
