MTV today (Dec. 20) launched "Bananas," the company's first MTV-branded mobile content subscription service.

The offering is a cross-carrier, direct-to-consumer service that features exclusive content from MTV, MTV2 and mtvU. It includes material from TV shows such as "Laguna Beach," "The Real World" and "Two-A-Days."

"Bananas" offers two tiers of service, with each one delivers an array of content from MTV programming as well as music ringtones from major record labels. Along with sound bites and other music-related content, subscribers can download cast photos, graphics, ringtones and wallpapers from current and past programs.

Technology for "Bananas" is being powered by Motricity, a global provider of mobile marketplace management solutions.
